Brand Ambassador Spotlight: Imma

Elaine Denice A

Can we all agree that the past few years have been a WILD ride?! 🎢 It's been A LOT – spiritually, emotionally, mentally. But amidst the chaos and perhaps a few-too-many “treat yourself” purchases, we've had the rare opportunity one doesn’t often get when running a business: the space to pause, reflect, and ask–who do we really want to be as a brand?

And while that may sound obvious (hint: the best ever body oil your skin's ever seen), we’re talking less about who we are and more about who we are to you. We want to inspire. We want to be your biggest cheerleaders. And how do we do that? By sharing real-life stories of some seriously amazing people who inspire us every. single. day.

Welcome to our Brand Ambassador Spotlight series, where we'll shine a light on the incredible Nectar Skin Women who perfectly represent what our brand is all about.

First up is Imma! 🎉 This 28-year-old social media manager and marketing content creator is a go-getter–seriously, her passion for life is contagious! Let's dive into this Q&A to get to know her:

Nectar Skin Imma

Simple pleasures

Q: Beyond the inspiring stories you share, what brings you the most joy in life?

A: To be honest, there are a lot of things that bring joy to my life these days. Simple things like spending the weekend with my family, meeting new people and having deep conversations with them, trying out food at hole-in-the-wall places, staying at home playing with my cats, and even just simply checking off all the items on my to-do list all bring me so much happiness already!

Speaking of joy, Imma radiates that joy through her confidence. We asked her about the sources of her self-belief.

Q: You radiate so much confidence! What are some things in your life that contribute most to your sense of self-belief?

A: It’s amazing to see how others now perceive me as a confident person, especially when I once felt the exact opposite. But one of the things that greatly contributed to my confidence is self-reflection and a whole lot of awareness of myself.

When I noticed that insecurity and people-pleasing were really getting to me, I knew I had to change something. One thing that helped boost my confidence was hanging out with people who exude confidence themselves. Their positive and non-judgmental disposition made it easier for me to ignore all the negative stuff my mind would come up with—a lot of which wasn’t even true.

Reading self-help books and listening to podcasts has also made a significant impact on my daily life. It might sound cliché, but it really helps with mindset and self-belief.

As long as you put what you learn into action, things start to fall into place.

Although these helped me a lot, I’m not saying I’m 100% confident now—I still have my insecurities. But I’m much less anxious about them than before, and that has lightened the load significantly.

The turning point

Q: We've noticed your openness about your experiences. Has there ever been a specific moment or turning point that shaped who you are today?

A: In December 2022, I was diagnosed with ADHD, Major Depressive Disorder, and Anxiety Disorder. That was a major turning point in my life. Surprisingly, it wasn’t a negative experience for me; in fact, I felt relieved.

Why was it a turning point? Because I finally understood that the struggles I’d faced growing up weren’t my fault. My brain just works differently.

Since then, I’ve become more aware of myself. Being neurodivergent isn’t easy, so I’ve made a conscious effort to improve my well-being. I got back into reading self-help books and embraced an active lifestyle, including climbing, running, and hitting the gym.

Being active has made a huge difference in my life. This year, in 2024, even though my ADHD traits are still there, I’ve noticed they’ve lessened, and I haven’t had any episodes since then. I feel like a completely different person compared to last year.

Living with ADHD

Imma's journey with ADHD has been full of valuable lessons. Let's hear her insights:

Q: You've openly shared about navigating life with ADHD. Can you share a specific instance where prioritizing self-care felt particularly difficult, specifically in relation to managing your ADHD?

A: There was a time when managing my ADHD made self-care really challenging. I was juggling work, personal projects, and social stuff, and it felt overwhelming. I remember neglecting sleep, eating right, and taking breaks because I was so focused on all of those.

Using tools like to-do list apps has been a lifesaver. Since I’m easily overwhelmed and tend to forget things, I include every little task in my daily list—like making my bed, drinking 1L of water in the morning and afternoon, washing my face, going to the gym, and even putting on moisturizer.

I know self-care is a must. So breaking my tasks down into smaller, manageable steps has really helped me remove the overwhelm.

Q: Many people with ADHD find it hard to stay focused on long-term goals. What keeps you motivated in pursuing your passions despite the challenges of ADHD?

A: I’d be lying if I said I’ve totally figured out how to stay focused on my long-term goals with ADHD. That’s still a work in progress. After nearly two years since my diagnosis, I’ve found myself jumping from one interest to another, chasing after sparks of motivation.

I’ve realized that motivation is just one piece of the puzzle. It doesn’t last forever, and relying on it alone isn’t enough to keep me moving toward my passions. So now, I’m all about consistency, routine, and finding systems that help me stay on track.

On confidence

Imma's journey to self-love is intertwined with her self-care routine. Let's see how it plays a role:

Q. You’ve mentioned that you’ve once struggled with confidence, we'd love to hear how you overcame that. What helped you believe in yourself?

A: Yes, every day! Not once have I left my room without overthinking my outfit, worrying about the scars on my legs, or stressing over the hyperpigmentation on my skin. It’s a constant challenge. But what helped me is just finding something that make me forget all of that even just for a day.

Honestly, I think Nectar Skin is one of those things. I've had serious insecurities about my skin because of the scars on my legs. For me, Nectar Skin works like a pair of stockings, it covers my skin, making me believe that it looks smooth, shiny, and flawless.

Sometimes, all you really need is a confidence booster, and Nectar Skin really does it for me.

Q: Certain scents can be incredibly powerful in boosting confidence. Is there a particular fragrance that makes you feel most confident and empowered? We'd love to know what scent gives off that vibe for you.

A: I agree. One thing that really boosts my confidence is when someone compliments how I smell. It makes me feel more put-together.

My go-to scents are Jo Malone English Pear and Freesia and Nectar Skin’s Maui Perfume—I always get tons of compliments on them. To top it off, I pair them with Nectar Skin’s body oils like Maui, Cairo, Bali, or Kyoto. I never leave the house without them!

Q: We know you love our products! Do you have a favorite Nectar Skin body oil, and why?

A: I  personally love scents that make me feel fresh, relaxed, or like I'm at a spa. My top four favorites are Cairo, Bali, Kyoto, and Maui.

I love using Cairo and Bali before bed because they have such relaxing scents. Musky notes like Cairo and spa-like scents like Bali are just perfect.

When I'm going out, I go for either Kyoto or Maui. They have a more sexy, floral, and sophisticated vibe that's perfect for going out. And I get a lot of compliments from these two scents!

Q: Can you tell us a bit more about what initially drew you to Nectar Skin? Perhaps there was a specific experience or realization that made our approach resonate with you?

A: I’ve always believed in taking time for yourself and really enjoying life’s moments instead of rushing through them.

One specific experience that made their approach resonate with me was during a particularly stressful time in my life. I realized I needed to prioritize self-care, and Nectar Skin's philosophy fit perfectly with my new focus on mindfulness and self-compassion.

Your products help me create small, intentional rituals that remind me to slow down and take care of myself. It’s been a game-changer for my self-care routine.

Finding balance

Beyond self-care and confidence, Imma also prioritizes finding balance in her busy life

Q: What are some simple activities that never fail to put a smile on your face, even on busy days?

A: I always try to find joy in the simple things like listening to jazz and bossa nova, hanging out with my cats, and watching a series I look forward to every Monday never fail to brighten my day, even when I'm busy.

These little moments of self-care really make a difference in my day-to-day life.

Q: How do you incorporate self-love and mindfulness into your daily routine? Are there specific practices you swear by?

A: This hasn’t become a solid habit yet, but from time to time, I try to start my day with a few minutes of mindfulness, whether it’s a quick meditation or just sitting quietly with a cup of coffee, focusing on my breath and setting a positive tone for the day. For self-care, I make time for things that make me feel good, like listening to my favorite music, hanging out with my cats, or enjoying a relaxing shower. At the end of the day, I use a journal app on my phone to jot down what happened and what I’m thankful for.

I believe these small rituals help me stay connected to myself and keep things balanced throughout the day.

Q: Walk us through a typical day in your life. How do you find balance between your responsibilities, self-care needs, and managing your ADHD?

A: In the morning, I start by making my bed and then list all the small tasks I need to tackle for the day. My to-do list is essential for keeping me organized and ensuring I don’t forget anything important. Without it, I’d feel completely lost.

From there, I dive into my day, checking off tasks one by one. I make sure to include everything, like weighing myself, staying hydrated, getting some movement in (like going to the gym or running), following my skincare routine, tracking my macros, and finishing work tasks.

Listing all my daily tasks helps me feel less overwhelmed and more balanced. Checking off items on my list boosts my dopamine, so I always feel accomplished, even with the little tasks. This routine helps me manage my day-to-day life effectively, especially with ADHD.

Q: Imagine anything is possible! Describe your ideal day of ultimate self-care, reset, and relaxation. What does a perfect day look like to you?

A: I imagine myself sitting on top of a hill, with a few trees around and an amazing view of the sea and blue sky. I’d soak up the sun, feel the cool breeze, and just enjoy the peace and quiet. It’s been my dream for as long as I can remember, and to me, that’s what a perfect day looks like—just enjoying some pure solitude.

Imma’s message

We wrapped up our Q&A by asking Imma for some words of wisdom

Q: For our readers who are also trying to prioritize self-care and self-love, especially those with ADHD, what's one piece of advice you'd give them?

A: My advice is to not just associate self-care with taking care of your skin. Self-care is something deeper, and many people don’t realize that it demands courage.

Why does real self-care and self-love require courage? Because it’s a journey of self-enlightenment. Sometimes, you won’t like what you discover about yourself. When you have the courage to change, you become self-aware, and that’s when true self-care begins.

Take care of your mind. Take care of your body. Take care of your soul.

  • How to take care of the mind? Keep learning. Read books. Listen to insightful podcasts.
  • How to take care of the body? Keep moving every day. Don’t let a day pass without some form of movement, even if it’s just a 20-minute walk. Just move.
  • How to take care of your soul? Have deep conversations with the people you meet. Build deep connections with those you love by spending quality time with them.

That, for me, is self-care and self-love. It’s not easy because you will often sabotage yourself. That’s why discipline and courage are so important.
